China's Market Regulator Unveils Five Power Bank Quality Cases

China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has revealed five typical cases concerning the quality and safety of portable chargers, commonly known as power banks. These enforcement actions are part of an ongoing effort to crack down on the production and sale of products that violate national standards and certification requirements.

Among the cases highlighted is one in Dongguan, Guangdong province, where Dongguan Pai Tou Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. was fined and had products confiscated for using counterfeit CCC certification marks and selling non-compliant power banks. The company faced penalties amounting to 75,000 yuan.

In Zhejiang province, Zhujian Shoudunlan Fire Protection Technology Co., Ltd. was penalized for selling multi-functional flashlights with power bank capabilities that lacked mandatory product certification. Similarly, in Shandong province, Shandong Yuantong Future Low Carbon Technology Co., Ltd. was investigated for producing and distributing power banks as promotional gifts without the necessary certifications.

Further cases involved Zhengzhou Qianying Trading Co., Ltd. in Henan province, which was fined for selling power banks that failed safety standards, including thermal abuse tests. A significant case in Lu'an, Anhui province, where the production and sale of uncertified power banks valued at 2.35 million yuan were discovered, has been transferred to the police for criminal investigation due to the scale of the operation.

The SAMR's actions underscore the importance of adhering to national product quality and safety regulations. Companies are urged to ensure their power bank products meet all mandatory certification and performance standards to protect consumer safety.
