China's Ministry of Industry Inspects Automakers Chery, NIO, and JAC

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) conducted supervisory inspections at Chery Automobile, NIO Technologies (Anhui), and JAC Motors (Anhui) on July 30-31. The inspections aimed to standardize competition within the automotive sector and improve product consistency and safety standards.

The MIIT focused on evaluating the companies' capabilities in ensuring the safety of intelligent connected vehicles, their design and development processes, and their adherence to production consistency requirements. During the inspections, sample vehicles and power batteries were randomly selected for testing against national standards by relevant testing institutions.

Going forward, the MIIT stated it will collaborate with other departments to further enhance product quality and safety for road motor vehicles. This includes strengthening the review and testing procedures for "aggressive" innovative vehicle designs and ensuring manufacturers proactively identify and address any product safety risks. The ministry also emphasized adherence to marketing regulations to protect consumer rights.

These inspections are part of a broader initiative. On July 17, the MIIT held a symposium with key automotive enterprises to address issues such as irregular market competition and the need for enhanced safety evaluations for autonomous driving systems. Previously, on July 24, the MIIT conducted similar inspections at GAC Aion and Xpeng.
