China's Power Generation Capacity Rose 11.1% by End of August
China's total power generation installed capacity reached 4.103 billion kilowatts by the end of August, an 11.1% increase year-on-year. Solar and wind power saw significant growth.
China's National Energy Administration released national electricity statistics for January-August 2026 on Monday. By the end of August, the country's total installed power generation capacity reached 4.103 billion kilowatts, an 11.1% increase compared to the previous year.
The growth was largely driven by renewable energy sources. Solar power capacity increased by 16.3% to 1.299 billion kilowatts, and wind power capacity grew by 19.6% to 693 million kilowatts.
Total electricity consumption in August exceeded one trillion kilowatt-hours, reaching 1.033 trillion kilowatt-hours, a 1.7% rise year-on-year. Grid load also hit a record high, surpassing the previous year's maximum by 49.69 million kilowatts.
From January to August, total social electricity consumption accumulated to 7.173 trillion kilowatt-hours, marking a 4.3% increase year-on-year. Electricity consumption in the primary industry grew by 3.3%.
