China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project completes annual supply mission
The central route of China’s major water diversion project has fulfilled its 2025–2026 supply targets, delivering over 7 billion cubic meters of water to approximately 118 million residents.

The central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project delivered 7.26 billion cubic meters of water to Henan, Hebei, Beijing, and Tianjin by October 31. The project supports water access for 27 major and medium-sized cities across the region.
Beyond basic supply, the project utilized surplus water to facilitate ecological restoration for 15 local rivers, exceeding the summer replenishment goals set by the Ministry of Water Resources. Performance during the ice-affected season was particularly notable, with 16.48 billion cubic meters delivered—a figure exceeding the initial plan by 158 million cubic meters.
Managed by the state-owned China South-to-North Water Diversion Group, the infrastructure remains a critical component of national water management. The operator has officially commenced the 2026–2027 supply cycle following the successful conclusion of the current term.
