Chinese AI Model MiniCPM Integrated into Samsung's New Foldable Phones

Chinese AI firm Mianbi Intelligent has successfully integrated its MiniCPM series of on-device large language models into Samsung's latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. These devices were unveiled at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event held in London. Mianbi Intelligent announced that its MiniCPM models will power the AI capabilities of Samsung's Galaxy AI features, offering capabilities in text understanding and multimodal perception directly on the device. This partnership signifies a major step, as it's the first time a Chinese on-device AI model has been incorporated into the global flagship product line of a leading international mobile manufacturer. The new Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra models were launched alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8. The Fold8 features a redesigned 8-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 4800mAh battery, aiming for a more tablet-like experience. The Fold8 Ultra boasts premium features including a 200-megapixel main camera and a 5000mAh battery. Mianbi Intelligent, founded in Beijing in August 2022, emerged from research labs at Tsinghua University, known for developing China's first large language model, CPM-1. The integration aims to enhance user experience by enabling advanced AI features to run directly on the Samsung hardware.
