Chinese animated series "Battle Through the Heavens" pauses production until September

Tencent Video has announced a temporary suspension of new episodes for its Chinese animated series "Battle Through the Heavens" (斗破苍穹). The pause is intended to allow for better preparation of the concluding story arcs for the series' fourth season, referred to as the 'annual series'.

The latest episode was released on July 12th. Following this, the platform will release compilation episodes for seven consecutive weeks. New story-driven episodes are scheduled to resume broadcasting on September 6th, with two episodes planned for the return week. Additionally, the total episode count for the fourth season has been increased from the originally planned 209 to 219 episodes.

"Battle Through the Heavens" is adapted from the novel of the same name by Tian Can Dou. The narrative follows the gifted young man Xiao Yan, who loses his combat abilities and falls from grace. Aided by his mentor Yao Lao, he regains his cultivation power and embarks on a journey to clear his name and ultimately confront a formidable antagonist to protect the realm.

The series, which first premiered in January 2017 and has been running for nearly a decade, is approaching its conclusion. A film adaptation, "Battle Through the Heavens: War of the Two Emperors," has also been announced, with an initial trailer already released.
