Chinese Firms Eye US AI Data Center Market Amid Competition

Chinese manufacturers specializing in AI infrastructure are targeting the expansive U.S. data center market, seeking to capitalize on the nation's rapid growth in artificial intelligence capabilities.

The United States leads the global buildout of AI data centers, with major tech giants collectively investing hundreds of billions of dollars. Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence data indicates the U.S. had 5,427 AI data centers in 2025, far surpassing China's 449.

Brightray, a Singapore-registered AI infrastructure company with its sole manufacturer being China-based PrefabDC, identifies significant potential in the U.S. market. A company executive noted stronger demand in the U.S. compared to China, where revenues from AI services are comparatively lower.

Geopolitical factors, including potential U.S. bans on Chinese AI models and data center components, present challenges. However, the U.S. faces domestic shortages of key components like electrical equipment, a gap that China's manufacturing prowess can fill more quickly and cost-effectively.

China is already an established supplier within the U.S. data center supply chain, providing components such as transformers, batteries, and fiber-optic cables. The country's integrated and comprehensive supply chain facilitates efficient manufacturing operations.
