Chinese Internet Firms Agree on AI Agent Data Protection
Major Chinese internet companies, including Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba, have signed a self-regulatory pact on personal information protection for AI agents. The agreement aims to standardize data handling as AI agent services expand.

The China Internet Association has introduced a self-regulatory agreement concerning the protection of personal information handled by artificial intelligence agents. Announced at a forum in Beijing, the pact saw initial signatories including prominent firms like Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba, and Volcengine, joined by 27 other internet companies.
The initiative addresses the growing use of AI agents across various internet platforms. It seeks to establish standardized practices for the collection, processing, and utilization of personal data by these agents. This standardization is intended to build user trust and ensure responsible data management as AI-driven services become more prevalent.
In a related development, the association also released a separate agreement focused on data governance within mini-program ecosystems. This second pact was signed by leading platform operators such as Tencent, Ant Group, and Baidu.
Both agreements underscore the increasing focus on data privacy and regulatory oversight within China's rapidly evolving technology sector, particularly as large language models and AI agents gain wider adoption.
