Chinese manufacturer Ningbo Mengting Outdoor Implement Co., LTD. has completed the development and certification of an LED bicycle light for a European brand in just 90 days. The project, which involved transforming a concept sketch into a CE-certified product ready for retail shelves, met the brand's stringent deadline.
The European bicycle brand, with a 30-year heritage in frame manufacturing, required a USB-C rechargeable, 200-lumen front light that could convert to a headlamp. The product needed to be delivered in retail packaging compliant with French, German, and Spanish labeling requirements, with a fixed launch date.
This 90-day timeline is significantly shorter than typical OEM development cycles for bicycle LED lights. The process necessitated locking down the optical and electrical specifications on day one to accommodate the mandatory CE certification procedures, including Low Voltage Directive compliance and EMC testing.
Key to achieving the deadline was locking specifications immediately, completing prototypes and EMC pre-tests by day 30, and submitting to the notified body by day 60. Technical documentation was developed concurrently, with the first production run shipped by day 90 to meet the retailer's catalog placement.
