Chinese Market Regulator Launches Nationwide Consumer Protection Platform
China's market regulator has debuted a digital platform integrating consumer protection data into major services like Baidu Maps, Meituan, and JD.com.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has officially launched a national consumer protection platform designed to standardize retail and service credibility. The initiative is part of a broader government directive to improve consumer environments across China through 2027.
Businesses can register on the new platform to receive a verified digital label and a unique QR code. This data is then synced with major consumer apps including Baidu Maps, Meituan, Taobao, and JD.com. When consumers use these services, they can now identify merchants that have formally committed to specific safety, pricing, and service standards.
Currently, the program is operating in nine cities, including Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, covering approximately 10,000 commercial entities. The regulator intends to expand the initiative nationally, encouraging more e-commerce platforms to integrate the verification data to help consumers identify compliant businesses.
