Chinese Sci-Fi Film "Qunxing Shanyao Shi" Inspired by Blockbuster

The Chinese science fiction film "Qunxing Shanyao Shi" (群星闪耀时) has been released. Director Zhang Dishan revealed in an interview that he had long intended to make a science fiction film but was previously limited by technology and experience. He stated he was deeply encouraged after watching the 2019 blockbuster "The Wandering Earth" (流浪地球), which spurred him to pursue his project.

"Qunxing Shanyao Shi" follows three Chinese astronauts who encounter peril during their return journey to Earth, losing contact with ground control. At a critical juncture, their fate is altered by a mysterious electronic signal containing hidden code that rewrites their destiny. The film is produced by Huang Jianxin and stars Huang Bo, Wu Lei, Gao Ye, and Sun Yang.

As of July 26, the film had grossed over 50 million yuan (approximately $7 million USD) at the box office. "Qunxing Shanyao Shi" also debuted on the review platform Douban with a score of 7.6 out of 10, based on nearly 50,000 user ratings.

Zhang Dishan selected the cast based on their distinct personal characteristics. He noted that actor Wu Lei's "sparkle in his eyes" made him confident that Lei could portray the character Zhao Jihu's strong sense of conviction.
