China Central Television (CCTV) has reported on a growing scam involving fraudulent "gold" social security cards. Perpetrators are falsely claiming these cards offer improved medical reimbursements, pension subsidies, and free cultural and travel benefits.

Reports indicate that individuals impersonating officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) are using the guise of "issuing gold cards" or "distributing subsidies" to solicit personal information and encourage fund transfers. These tactics are designed to trick individuals into believing the offers are legitimate.

CCTV emphasizes that these alleged "gold cards" are a deceptive ploy and urges the public to exercise extreme caution to avoid falling victim. The scam utilizes fabricated materials, including images of gold-colored cards that deviate from the official, nationally standardized social security cards. Forged official documents and imitation government websites are also employed to lend credibility to the fraudulent scheme.

Official Chinese social security cards adhere to national standards and feature a uniform design, including the national emblem and the inscription "中华人民共和国社会保障卡" (People's Republic of China Social Security Card). Their technical specifications and security features are standardized nationwide, ensuring interoperability for services such as cross-provincial medical expense settlements and social security inquiries.
