Chip Motors to Launch Six-Seater Electric Vehicle for $18,000
Miami-based startup Chip Motors has unveiled its new six-seater electric vehicle, Chip, designed to resemble a golf cart. The vehicle will start at $18,000, with deliveries slated for mid-2027.

Chip Motors, a Miami-based automotive startup, has announced its new six-seater electric vehicle, dubbed Chip. The "Life Utility Vehicle" (LUV) is priced starting at $18,000 and is expected to begin deliveries in the second half of 2027, offering a distinct approach to everyday family transportation.
The Chip vehicle, with a top speed of approximately 25 mph, features an open-top design reminiscent of a golf cart. The company plans to offer enclosed roof options and advanced features, including autonomous driving capabilities. This move taps into the growing demand for electrification and more affordable personal transport solutions, aligning with the surge in popularity of golf carts and low-speed vehicles (LSVs) in the U.S.
Chip Motors CEO and co-founder Jameson Detweiler highlighted a perceived stagnation in the American automotive market, stating that cars have become "boring." The Chip is designed to inject personality and a unique character into the segment, aiming to differentiate itself from traditional golf carts while providing a modern urban mobility option. The vehicle is expected to have a maximum range of approximately 100 miles on a full charge.
The company intends to open pre-orders soon, with initial production runs commencing by mid-2027. Chip Motors faces competition from other entrants in the growing LSV market, such as Fiat's Topolino and the Amble, designed by a former Apple designer, indicating a strong interest in this segment of cost-conscious, smaller electric vehicles.
