Chip Startup Nuvacore Seeks $2.5 Billion Valuation
Sequoia-backed chip startup Nuvacore is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars at a $2.5 billion valuation to develop processors for data centers.

Nuvacore, a six-month-old chip startup based in San Jose, is reportedly seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in funding at a valuation of approximately $2.5 billion. The company aims to develop processors specifically for data centers.
The funds are intended to support the development of central processing units (CPUs) for data center applications. The fundraising round is still ongoing, and the final amount raised and valuation could change. Nuvacore has not yet produced a finished product, stating in September that it would first develop the chip's core functionalities before committing to an architecture like x86 or Arm.
Sequoia Capital previously led Nuvacore's seed funding round earlier this year. Notably, co-founder Gerard Williams previously founded Nuvia, a company acquired by Qualcomm for $1.4 billion in 2021.
This funding effort comes as the server CPU market experiences a significant shift. Intel's long-standing dominance is being challenged by competitors such as Advanced Micro Devices and the evolving Arm architecture. Arm anticipates substantial growth in its market share for data center CPUs.
