Chipotle Opens First Restaurant in Mexico

Chipotle Mexican Grill opened its first restaurant in Mexico on Thursday, July 16, in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. The launch is a collaboration with Alsea, a major restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe.

This marks the inaugural opening under a development agreement announced in April 2025 between Chipotle and Alsea. The companies intend to open additional restaurants in Nuevo León later this year and expand into Mexico City by 2027.

The Monterrey metropolitan area was selected as the initial location due to its robust economy, growing population, and status as a hub for business and innovation in Mexico. This strategic choice aligns with Chipotle's international growth objectives, according to Scott Boatwright, Chief Executive Officer.

Chipotle's offering in Mexico features its signature customizable menu of burritos, bowls, salads, and tacos, prepared with fresh ingredients without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. The company emphasizes its respect for Mexico's culinary heritage while introducing its unique dining experience.

The expansion into Mexico is part of Chipotle's broader international strategy, which includes existing developments in the Middle East and new ventures planned for South Korea and Singapore.
