Choso Electric Clarifies Differences Between MCB and MCCB Circuit Breakers

Choso Electric Group Co., Ltd. is providing clarity on electrical safety device selection with its updated comparison of Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB) and Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB).

The company explained that MCBs are designed for low-current applications, typically up to 125 amperes, making them suitable for residential buildings and small commercial spaces. In contrast, MCCBs are larger and intended for heavy-duty applications, with current ratings ranging from 16 to 1600 amperes, and even higher for industrial models. These are recommended for environments such as factories, warehouses, and large commercial facilities.

Choso highlighted that MCBs feature fixed trip characteristics, best suited for simple circuits like lighting. MCCBs, however, offer adjustable trip settings, allowing customization for specific industrial needs, such as protecting motors or heavy machinery. MCCBs also possess a higher short-circuit current rating compared to MCBs.

MCBs are noted as more affordable and easier to install on standard DIN rails, positioning them as a cost-effective option for residential and light commercial projects. MCCBs, while more expensive, are presented as a durable, long-term investment for high-demand settings due to their robust design and advanced features.

With over two decades in the electrical protection sector, Choso Electric Group aims to enhance global electrical safety across both industrial and residential sectors.
