Choso Electric's Surge Protector Shields Solar Power Plant

Choso Electric Group announced its new DC surge protector designed to protect solar power plants and other DC systems from electrical surges.

The device was recently tested at a solar power plant in southern Spain where a severe thunderstorm caused significant damage to neighboring facilities. The plant equipped with Choso's device, however, remained undamaged throughout the storm. The plant's manager, Carlos, described the device as a "bulletproof vest" that prevented damage to inverters and cables.

"The surge current value was terrifying, but the Choso protector activated instantly," Carlos stated. "All inverters and DC components were undamaged, and our plant operated at full power the next day without any loss of electricity."

Choso's DC surge protector is available in 2P and 3P models and is suitable for DC systems of various scales. The CSPD - 40 model, featuring a 1000 Vdc voltage rating and a 40 kA discharge current, responds in under a nanosecond. The device holds CE certification and an IP20 protection level, ensuring its function in diverse environments such as desert solar farms or data centers.

This product launch by Choso Electric Group comes amid a global energy transition and increasing demand for renewable energy sources like solar power. The protector is expected to enhance the reliability and continuity of solar power generation.
