Christie's to Exhibit 50 Unique Chairs in Beverly Hills

Christie's Beverly Hills is set to host a selling exhibition showcasing 50 unique chairs from Los Angeles, with materials ranging from antlers to steel and balloons. The exhibition, open for appointments from September 25 to 30, aims to present a diverse collection of seating.

The collection was curated by the marketplace Basic.Space, bringing together well-known designs and chairs with notable previous owners. Highlights include a rare cowhide LCW chair by Charles and Ray Eames, contributed by the Eames Foundation, and Gufram's Pratone armchair from 1971, designed to resemble grass.

Notable designers are also represented. Fashion designer Rick Owens crafted a Stag Stool using an actual moose antler, while Kelly Wearstler contributed a hammered-brass chair by Philippe Hiquily. The Teamwork Chair by Playlab Inc. is presented as a sculpture that requires two people to sit on it simultaneously to achieve balance.

Other distinctive pieces include SeungJin Yang's Lounge Chair 01, made from balloons and resin, and Illya Goldman Gubin's Box Chair, constructed from a cardboard box and resin. Basic.Space sourced the items from its network of designers and collectors, intending to blend iconic designs with contemporary works shaping the future of furniture.
