Google's Chrome browser maintained its leading position in global desktop usage in August 2026, according to Statcounter data, despite slight market share decreases for Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox.
Google's Chrome browser continued its dominance in the global desktop browser market in August 2026, holding a 73.28% market share. This data comes from a new report by market research firm Statcounter.
Microsoft Edge secured the second position with a 10.46% share, experiencing a 0.68 percentage point decrease from the previous month. Mozilla Firefox ranked third with 5.31%, a decline of 1.12 percentage points. Other browsers included Safari at 5.24%, Opera at 1.99%, and Samsung Internet at 1.53%.
In China's desktop browser market, Chrome showed a significant rebound, increasing its share by 4.32 percentage points to surpass 50%. Microsoft Edge saw its market share in China drop by over 2 percentage points. 360 Secure Browser remained in third place, though its share also declined. The report suggests a continued coexistence of international and local browsers in the Chinese market.
Globally, Chrome also led the mobile browser market with a 66.17% share, despite a minor decrease. Apple's Safari held the second spot with 25.87%, followed by Samsung Internet. On China's mobile browser scene, Chrome's share rose, while Safari and UC Browser maintained stable or slightly decreased positions.
