Chromium Prices Increased in Q4 2025 Amid Supply Tightness

Chromium prices saw a global increase in the fourth quarter of 2025, with gains ranging from 2.0% to 4.5% across five tracked markets. This upward trend was attributed to strong demand from stainless steel producers and tightening feedstock supply.

Brazil experienced the largest quarter-on-quarter increase at 4.5%, bringing its price to $9,977 per metric ton. Other markets also saw growth: the USA at $13,429/MT (up 2.1%), China at $8,312/MT (up 2.0%), Canada at $15,602/MT (up 2.1%), and Japan at $10,082/MT (up 2.9%).

Supply constraints were exacerbated by import limitations and rising logistics costs. Geopolitical tensions, including conflicts in the Middle East, contributed to higher oil prices, subsequently increasing energy costs for chromium smelters and alloy processors.

Import delays and increased freight charges impacted supply in several regions. In China, stricter environmental regulations limited production, while stainless steel mills engaged in aggressive restocking. Increased export inquiries from Southeast Asia also supported prices.

Market dynamics in the USA, Canada, and Japan were further affected by import reliance and supply chain issues within distribution networks. Delays in air and sea freight added to costs and market tightness, reducing buyers' negotiating power.
