CIEE Expands Fellowship Programs for Study Abroad
CIEE has opened applications for its expanded and new fellowship programs for the 2027 academic year, aiming to support first-generation and Pell-eligible students in study abroad opportunities.
Portland, Maine – The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) has announced that applications are now open for its enhanced and new fellowship programs for the 2027 academic year. These initiatives are designed to broaden access to international study and internship experiences for first-generation and Pell-eligible students.
CIEE allocates over $13 million annually in grants and scholarships to facilitate study abroad. The organization emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that students from all backgrounds, particularly those who are first-generation college attendees or Pell-eligible, can benefit from the transformative impact of international education.
Among the expanded offerings are the Douglass O'Connell Global Internship Program in Ireland and the Scan Design Foundation Environmental Sustainability Internship in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Irish program provides 13 Pell-eligible students with an eight-week internship in Dublin, covering program costs, airfare, and stipends. The Danish program, also for Pell-eligible students, offers an eight-week internship with a Copenhagen-based company focused on environmental sustainability, alongside cultural exploration and professional development.
The Douglass O'Connell program draws inspiration from Frederick Douglass's visit to Ireland over 175 years ago. The Scan Design Foundation internship aims to strengthen Danish-American relations through a focus on environmental sustainability. Applications for both programs are being accepted until January 8, 2027.
