Visual effects artist Steven Messing used Maxon's Cinema 4D 3D modeling software for the conceptualization and design of visual effects in Ridley Scott's film "Prometheus." Messing was responsible for creating CG environments, creatures, and spacecraft that defined the science fiction movie's aesthetic.

Messing, an experienced Cinema 4D user, served as the visual effects art director for the production. He leveraged the software's speed, flexibility, and intuitive workflow to create realistic models and environments required for the film's narrative. This included reinventing complex film sequences and updating designs from the original "Alien" movie.

Specifically, Messing focused on redesigning the "Prometheus" ship, the Juggernaut, to enhance its perceived scale and detail. He generated approximately 200 unique images, encompassing matte paintings, keyframe storyboards, set designs, and final CG visual effects. Messing collaborated with other artists, such as Ben Procter, to ensure the accuracy of his designs.

Cinema 4D was also employed to create the film's opening scene, depicting the planet Earth in its early stages. Using the software's Global Illumination engine and ray tracing capabilities, Messing rendered realistic layers of clouds, oceans, and land, alongside dramatic mountainous terrains. These elements formed the visual foundation for the alien planet.

Maxon stated that Messing's artistic vision and his use of Cinema 4D to create these otherworldly visuals were impressive. The company highlighted the software's significant role in the realization of the highly anticipated film directed by Ridley Scott.
