CIP Acquires Stake in Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a 25% stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project located off the UK coast. The project aims to generate up to 1,080MW of electricity.

Copenhagen, Denmark – Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a 25% share in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project. The previous owner of this stake was a Macquarie-led consortium. With this acquisition, CIP joins EDF Power Solutions (33.33%), ESB (20.83%), and Sumitomo Corporation (20.83%) in advancing the project.
The Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm is situated approximately 40km off the Essex and Suffolk coast. The project, with a capacity of up to 1,080MW, received development consent in December 2025 after more than four years of development. Once operational, it is expected to produce enough electricity annually to power the equivalent of around one million average UK homes.
This updated partnership structure is a significant milestone for the Five Estuaries project, bringing together expertise in developing, financing, and operating large-scale offshore wind farms globally. CIP, which continues to expand its portfolio of UK energy infrastructure investments, will work closely with all project partners as a long-term investor.
CIP's increased involvement in the UK's energy infrastructure is set to support the nation's energy security and economic growth. The project is currently in its development phase, with work underway on design finalization and early procurement, alongside ongoing stakeholder engagement.
