CipherX introduces new microneedle tattoo applicator
London-based tech company CipherX has launched the Microdot Tattoos applicator, utilizing dissolving microneedles instead of traditional tattoo needles.
CipherX, a London-based skin technology company, has introduced a new tattoo applicator called Microdot Tattoos. The company claims the device uses microneedle technology, which significantly reduces the pain associated with traditional tattooing.
Traditional tattooing involves puncturing deeper layers of the skin, which can be painful and requires extensive aftercare. Microdot Tattoos employs dissolving microneedle capsules that deposit ink into the upper layers of the skin. CipherX asserts this method is nearly painless and reduces aftercare to just 48 hours.
Microneedle technology is already used in medicine for minimally invasive delivery of drugs and vaccines. In this tattoo application, the technology transfers ink as microscopic dots that form the image. The system is designed for small tattoos.
The company launched the product in London's Shoreditch area, initially offering a selection of small designs. The applicator is reusable and uses standard tattoo inks. Users can also design their own tattoos for computer-generated files.
CipherX co-founder and CEO Ferdinand Kohle compares the microneedles' function to a sandcastle that dissolves when wet. Kohle developed the product with Karl-Anton Harms, a specialist in plastic surgery and skin technology.
