City Jam: Artist's Own Sound is Real Asset in AI Music Race

The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have significantly increased the speed and volume of music production. However, Pat Villaceran, founder of City Jam, highlights that the most valuable element in music remains the human artist's unique sound, which AI cannot fully replicate or force.

Villaceran argues that the current race in AI music prioritizes speed and quantity, overlooking the core of the creative process: the artist's original expression. City Jam's INDUSTRY.AIFF service aims to address this by assisting artists signed to labels, but whose work is still in progress, to develop their tracks into catalog-ready material and supporting them through the launch phase.

Statistics reveal a substantial surge in music production. According to the Luminate report, 106,000 tracks were uploaded daily to streaming services in 2025, a 7% increase from the previous year. A significant portion of this volume, nearly half, received fewer than ten streams. AI-generated tracks constitute a considerable share of new uploads, but their listening share remains small, with up to 85% of these streams being fraudulent in 2025.

Copyright organizations and regulatory bodies are also beginning to scrutinize the challenges posed by AI in music, such as the dilution of royalty pools and streaming fraud. The U.S. Copyright Office is currently investigating industry practices that may inadvertently facilitate streaming fraud. City Jam's operations are positioned within this landscape, offering solutions for artists and record labels in the age of AI.

Villaceran believes that if speed is no longer the bottleneck, the true purpose of music lies in the artist's own voice. When AI's speed serves this originality rather than replacing it, lasting value can be created. INDUSTRY.AIFF provides record labels and artist services companies with the tools and expertise to develop artists and advance their careers.
