The City of Toronto has introduced an AI-assisted system designed to streamline the processing of housing permit applications. Clariti's Guided AI Plan Review is being piloted with the goal of substantially shortening the time it takes to issue decisions on these permits.

In a previous trial in Honolulu, the system demonstrated a 55% reduction in decision time for residential permits during the first quarter of 2026. Toronto officially launched the system on August 31, 2026.

The technology utilizes artificial intelligence to automatically check building plans for compliance with regulations and identify any potential issues. This automation is expected to reduce the workload for city staff and accelerate the approval process for applicants.

By speeding up permit approvals, the city hopes to facilitate new housing construction and address the ongoing demand for residential properties. This efficiency gain could also attract further investment in the city's development sector.
