Orlando, Florida, has once again been named the best place to retire in America by WalletHub, marking its third consecutive year at the top of the rankings. The city is noted for its favorable tax environment and abundant recreational activities.
While traditional retirement havens in warm climates like Florida and Arizona continue to attract retirees, the latest study highlights an unexpected rising star. Casper, Wyoming, has climbed into the top five, securing the fifth position, a significant advancement from previous years.
The annual ranking by the personal finance website evaluates over 180 cities across four key dimensions: affordability, activities, quality of life, and healthcare. Analyst Chip Lupo emphasized the importance of minimizing taxes and expenses for retirees on fixed incomes, as well as opportunities for continued employment.
Florida's tax structure, which notably lacks estate, inheritance, and income taxes, significantly contributes to Orlando's consistent high ranking. Casper's ascent is largely attributed to its high affordability score and Wyoming's status as a state with low tax rates. Conversely, cities in high-tax states like Illinois and New York failed to place within the top 50.
