Civic Match Expands Public Sector Job Search to All Americans

Work for America, a career resource organization, has expanded its Civic Match platform to connect job seekers with state and local government opportunities. The platform is now accessible to all Americans looking for employment in the public sector, regardless of prior experience.

Civic Match was initially created to assist public sector employees affected by layoffs. Last year, the platform helped 500 individuals secure new roles with 440 city, county, and state employers. "In the midst of economic uncertainty and fears surrounding AI, public service should be a source of optimism for job seekers," stated Caitlin Lewis, founder of Work for America.

Public sector jobs often offer more generous benefits, such as pensions, in exchange for lower salaries. Additionally, many roles in public service, like those for teachers, police officers, and firefighters, are not easily replaceable by artificial intelligence. The stability offered by these positions is appealing to many, particularly amidst rising layoffs in the private sector.

One challenge within the public sector is the lengthy hiring process. On average, it takes 130 days to fill a position in public service, compared to 39 days in the private sector. Civic Match aims to streamline this process by providing a centralized platform for various employers' open positions.
