Claro, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm demo 5G Broadcast streaming to smartphones
Operator Claro, technology firm Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm demonstrated 5G Broadcast/Multicast technology's potential to deliver multi-angle video streams directly to smartphones at Open Rio 2023.

Claro, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm joined forces at Open Rio 2023 in Rio de Janeiro to showcase the potential of 5G Broadcast/Multicast technology to drive new business models and transform content delivery.
The demonstration featured a live signal transmitted over-the-air from Claro's booth to a Qualcomm Technologies smartphone form-factor test device. Live content was streamed using a 5G Broadcast signal, offering visitors a glimpse into an advanced live mobile experience.
Rohde & Schwarz provided its 3GPP compliant end-to-end solution for the demonstration, which included a 5G Broadcast RAN enabled by an R&S TLU9 transmitter. The input content was sourced from five live-feed cameras and transcoded using Ateme's Titan encoding solution.
The technology operates in a Receive-Only Mode, is Free-To-Air, and does not require a SIM card. This capability can be leveraged for new consumer applications in entertainment and automotive sectors, as well as for distributing public safety messages during emergencies without impacting existing mobile networks.
