Claro, Rohde & Schwarz, Qualcomm demonstrated 5G Broadcast smartphone streaming

Claro, Rohde & Schwarz, and Qualcomm Technologies collaborated at Open Rio 2023 to showcase the potential of 5G Broadcast/Multicast to drive new business models and transform content delivery.

The demonstration featured a live signal transmitted over-the-air from the Claro booth to a Qualcomm smartphone-form-factor test device. The live 5G Broadcast stream offered attendees a glimpse into an advanced mobile content experience.

This technology can assist network operators and broadcasters in creating new services while benefiting from high spectral efficiency and reduced costs. The companies highlighted its potential for various business segments.

Rohde & Schwarz provided an end-to-end 3GPP compliant solution, including a 5G Broadcast RAN and core network. Content was sourced from five live camera feeds, transcoded by Ateme's Titan solution. The technology operates in a SIM-free, free-to-air mode.
