Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Planet Fitness Over Alleged Investor Misleading

Planet Fitness, Inc. (NYSE: PLNT) is facing a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of investors who bought stock between November 6, 2025, and May 5, 2026. The complaint, brought by law firm Robbins LLP, alleges that the company provided false impressions regarding its ability to roll out price increases for its "Black Card" membership, its projected membership growth, and the effectiveness of its marketing campaigns.
The lawsuit claims that Planet Fitness's internal projections for 2026 and its three-year growth targets were not realistic. Specifically, it is alleged that the company's marketing efforts were insufficient to drive the necessary membership growth without significant changes, and that the planned "Black Card" price increase was also unviable as projected.
These issues allegedly came to light on May 7, 2026, when Planet Fitness announced its first-quarter 2026 financial results. The company revealed that its peak sign-up season started slower than anticipated, leading it to slash its full-year growth guidance from a range of 4-5% to just 1%. It also withdrew its previously issued three-year growth projections.
Planet Fitness attributed the poor performance to a marketing campaign that failed to resonate with its customer base, alongside external factors like competition and macroeconomic conditions. The company also announced a pause on the national rollout of the "Black Card" price increase to focus on regaining membership momentum. Following this announcement, the company's stock price dropped approximately 31.19% on May 7, 2026.
