Clearinghouse CDFI Secures $100 Million from U.S. Treasury for Community Development

Clearinghouse Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) announced it has secured a $100 million allocation from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Bond Guarantee Program (BGP). The funds are designated for community and economic development initiatives in low-income, underserved, and rural areas across the United States.

The financing aims to support job creation and affordable housing, aligning with federal objectives to stimulate growth in distressed communities. The BGP operates at no cost to taxpayers, as the bond proceeds are debt instruments requiring repayment with interest.

Clearinghouse CDFI previously repaid its first $100 million bond issued through the BGP in 2014. That initial funding supported 81 loans totaling $196 million, which generated significant economic activity, creating or retaining jobs and producing or preserving affordable housing units.

The institution has maintained profitability for 26 consecutive years, demonstrating, according to the company, that mission-driven lending can be sustained with financial discipline. Clearinghouse CDFI focuses on projects such as affordable housing, healthcare facilities, and small business lending in areas with limited access to traditional capital.
