Cloudflare Acquires Software Startup Deno

Cloudflare has acquired Deno, a software startup known for its runtime environment. The acquisition is intended to bolster Cloudflare's Workers platform, which allows developers to build and deploy applications on Cloudflare's global network.

According to Cloudflare, the integration of Deno's technology and team will improve the Workers programming model and overall platform capabilities. Deno's founders and core contributors are expected to join Cloudflare.

In conjunction with the acquisition, Cloudflare also open-sourced 'workerd,' the runtime that powers its Workers service. This move positions Cloudflare to strengthen its offerings in the competitive market for edge computing and serverless developer tools.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Deno, co-founded by Ryan Dahl, the creator of Node.js, had previously secured significant venture funding.
