CNPC and Unitree to form joint venture for industrial robotics

State-owned oil giant CNPC and robotics firm Unitree plan to launch a joint venture focused on AI-powered industrial robotic solutions.

6 November 2026

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), through its subsidiaries Kunlun Manufacturing and Kunlun Capital, has moved to establish a joint venture with Unitree Robotics and Beijing Fanjie Intelligent. The new entity will specialize in developing embodied AI robotic solutions for industrial applications.

Regulatory filings from the Beijing Administration for Market Regulation indicate that the CNPC-affiliated entities will hold a 60% stake in the venture, while Unitree and Fanjie Intelligent will each hold 20%. All three parent companies will share control over the new organization.

The formation of this entity follows a prior strategic cooperation agreement between CNPC and Unitree, which included Kunlun Capital’s investment in Unitree Robotics during its pre-IPO placement phase. The partnership aims to deploy robotics technology specifically within oil and gas operational environments.

The proposed merger is currently under public review by market regulators, with a notification period ending in November. The initiative highlights a broader push to integrate advanced robotics into large-scale energy infrastructure management.
