Qingdao Co-nele Machinery Co., Ltd. has successfully conducted a laboratory granulation test for battery-grade lithium carbonate. Using its CEL1 series 1L desktop laboratory granulator, the company achieved a 95% pelletizing rate, with particle sizes stabilized within the customer's target range of 0.8–1.5 mm.

Challenges with poor flowability and particle size control of battery-grade lithium carbonate powder have been common in lab-scale R&D for battery cathode precursors. Co-nele's lab engineers optimized process parameters, including powder wetting methods and mixing/granulating durations, to produce uniform spherical pellets suitable for subsequent sintering processes.

The successful trial is expected to reduce risks and costs associated with the development of new lithium materials. Small-scale laboratory testing allows for rapid validation of formulations and processes. Co-nele provides laboratory equipment and process support services for manufacturers of lithium battery materials and inorganic powders globally.

The CEL1 granulator offers advantages such as small batch testing, adjustable process parameters, and easy cleaning. Its process logic is also consistent with production-scale equipment, which simplifies the industrialization cycle.
