Coca-Cola Files Trademark for 'Spricy', Hinting at New Sprite Flavor
The Coca-Cola Company has applied for a trademark for "Spricy," potentially signaling a new flavor for its Sprite brand. This follows the withdrawal of a spicy Coca-Cola variant from the market.

The Coca-Cola Company has filed a trademark application for the name "Spricy," suggesting a potential re-entry into the market for spicy-flavored soft drinks. The filing with the USPTO, directed at the Sprite brand, indicates a specific direction for the company's beverage offerings.
This development comes after Coca-Cola's spicy-flavored soda, launched in 2024, was removed from shelves just six months after its release due to poor sales. The new "Spricy" designation, beginning with "Sp," has led to speculation among experts that it is intended for Sprite lemonade rather than the classic Coca-Cola.
The application is part of a broader pattern of trademark activity by Coca-Cola related to its Sprite brand. The company has recently registered the slogan "Hurts Real Good with Sprite," and an application for "It's that fresh, Sprite" is currently pending. A new core Sprite application was also filed in July 2025.
The "Spricy" name appears to reference the growing "swicy" trend, which combines sweet and spicy flavors. This trend, initially prominent in the food industry, has more recently been adopted by the beverage sector. Coca-Cola's pattern of trademark filings, with a significant majority being intention-to-use (ITU) applications, is notably higher than the industry average.
