Cognition's Devin AI Integrates with Paid ChatGPT Subscriptions

Cognition, the developer of the AI coding assistant Devin, has announced an integration that allows users to leverage their existing paid ChatGPT subscriptions. This new feature enables token usage to be shared between ChatGPT and Devin, potentially lowering software development expenses, particularly for small businesses and startups.
Previously, Devin users who exceeded their usage limits were required to purchase additional credits. Devin Pro and Max are priced at $20 and $200 per month, respectively. With the new integration, users who already subscribe to ChatGPT can spread their token consumption across both services. For instance, if Devin utilizes ChatGPT to investigate or plan a solution to a coding issue, that token usage can be drawn from the user's existing ChatGPT allowance.
For founders with lean teams, this could mean maximizing Devin's utility without incurring extra costs. The reduction in overall token expenses may accelerate product development cycles and time-to-market. The rising cost of AI services has been a significant concern for startups; a Mercury report indicated that 77 percent of surveyed founders reported increased AI and token spending.
A separate Stack Overflow report also highlighted cost as a barrier to AI agent adoption, with 38 percent of professionals agreeing. Lowering these costs could make AI's advanced coding capabilities more accessible to a wider range of startups. Cognition has experienced rapid growth since its founding in January 2024, achieving significant valuations and revenue projections.
