Cognizant to Train 5,000 Frontier Engineers, 10,000 Operational Managers for AI Results

Cognizant, a technology services provider, announced in July 2026 its commitment to train and certify a workforce of 5,000 Frontier engineers and 10,000 Frontier operational managers. The company's "Frontier" model is designed to build the human and operational infrastructure needed to convert artificial intelligence capabilities into tangible business results.

The initiative addresses a reported gap where many companies have heavily invested in AI but struggle to demonstrate significant returns. Cognizant's strategy focuses on upskilling employees to understand client industries deeply and take ownership of driving outcomes using AI technologies. The company plans to have its first cohort of Frontier-certified professionals ready by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Cognizant also intends to augment its Frontier talent pool through direct recruitment from U.S. and international universities annually. This move aims to bridge the "performance gap" in AI, which the company attributes to people and process challenges rather than solely technological limitations.

"To bridge the AI performance gap requires talent that not only understands the client's business deeply but is also able to reimagine the organization of work and take full responsibility for delivering outcomes," said CEO Ravi Kumar S. The company emphasizes that its Frontier platform is designed to be cloud and model-agnostic, integrating with existing client technology stacks.
