CoinShares Reports Market Volatility as Bitcoin Struggles at US$80,000
Bitcoin has dipped below the US$80,000 threshold as market participants brace for the upcoming Federal Reserve policy decision.
Bitcoin has failed to maintain its momentum toward the US$85,000 level, falling roughly 4% over the last fortnight as institutional demand shows signs of stalling. Investors are now shifting their attention to the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy announcement, with expectations heavily weighted toward a rate hold, though inflation concerns remain elevated due to energy costs.
CoinShares has temporarily ceased its Bitcoin purchasing activity, opting instead to allocate US$205m to the repurchase of STRC preferred shares. This strategic pivot highlights a broader trend among major holders, where corporate liquidity management is taking precedence over further accumulation. Meanwhile, plans to introduce tokenized equities on the OKXICE platform have encountered significant pushback from major issuers, including Microsoft and Goldman Sachs, creating hurdles for the integration of traditional financial assets into blockchain venues.
In the mining sector, rising costs have pushed average production expenses above market price for many firms, leading to an industry-wide reassessment. While many miners are pivoting toward energy-intensive AI infrastructure, the transition remains complex, with significant capital expenditure required before these facilities can generate meaningful revenue.
