Comcast reports Q3 broadband losses and signals workforce reductions
Comcast shed 144,000 residential broadband subscribers in the third quarter of 2026 as competition from fixed wireless and fiber providers intensifies.

Comcast reported a sharper decline in its subscriber base during the third quarter of 2026, losing 144,000 residential broadband customers compared to 91,000 in the same period last year. The company confirmed it is planning significant job reductions within its cable division to address the ongoing downturn in its core residential business.
The telecommunications giant, which previously maintained a dominant market position due to limited high-speed wireline competition, is currently facing pressure from aggressive fixed wireless offerings and expanded fiber-optic infrastructure. These alternatives are eroding Comcast's traditional market share in several regions.
During an earnings call, co-CEO Mike Cavanagh attributed the customer attrition to increased competition, characterizing the pricing strategies of rival fiber providers as "irrational." As the firm navigates these market shifts, the planned restructuring signals a transition for the media and connectivity provider as it attempts to manage rising operating costs alongside dwindling subscriber counts.
