Commercial Refrigeration Integrates Aluminum Foil Heaters for Efficient Defrost
Manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment are integrating aluminum foil heater pads for efficient evaporator defrost and freeze prevention in drainage systems. These components provide uniform heat distribution.

Commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers are increasingly adopting aluminum foil heater pads for enhanced defrost operations and to prevent freeze-ups in drainage systems. These heating elements deliver uniform heat across evaporator coils, improving energy efficiency and system reliability.
The aluminum foil heater pads serve as a standard defrost heating element in commercial refrigeration evaporators, supplying 100-800 watts of heat to melt frost accumulation within 15 to 25 minutes per cycle. Integrated thermal cutoff (TCO) protection, which opens at 75-85°C if the primary thermostat fails, is a mandatory safety feature to prevent overheating and potential damage to evaporator fins or surrounding materials.
In addition to coil defrosting, these heater pads are employed in drain pans and drain lines to prevent condensate from freezing. Freeze events in drain lines can cause water backup into refrigerated compartments, leading to ice accumulation and potential product loss, particularly in food retail applications.
Aluminum foil heater pads are favored over alternative defrost technologies due to their uniform heat distribution, thin profile for tight spaces, and moisture resistance. This makes them a reliable and cost-effective solution for maintaining optimal operating conditions in commercial refrigeration systems.
