Conductor Tabita Berglund Receives Telenor Culture Prize 2026

Telenor has named Norwegian conductor Tabita Berglund as the recipient of its 2026 Culture Prize. The award recognizes Berglund for her strong artistic presence, her ability to unleash the energy of music, and her significance as a Norwegian artist on the international stage. The prize ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Oslo.

The Telenor Culture Prize, worth NOK 500,000, has been awarded annually since 1995 to Nordic artists across various disciplines including music, literature, performing arts, film, and visual arts. Berglund, born in 1989, has rapidly established herself as one of the most sought-after conductors of her generation.

She currently serves as Principal Guest Conductor for both the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Dresdner Philharmonie. In 2027, Berglund will assume the role of Chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, making her the first Norwegian woman to hold this position with a major Norwegian orchestra and the first Norwegian chief conductor for the Bergen Philharmonic in over four decades.

Telenor CEO Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer highlighted Berglund's leadership qualities, noting her capacity to foster trust and build community through music. The jury commended her ability to make classical music feel both timeless and relevant, blending tradition with contemporary interpretation.

Berglund's work is characterized by a focus on listening and collaboration, creating performances that resonate with both musicians and audiences. Her artistic approach emphasizes uniting people through music, demonstrating the enduring power of shared musical experiences.
