Constantin Film Completes Filming on "Der Medicus 2"
Filming has concluded in Berlin for "Der Medicus 2," the sequel to the 2013 historical drama. The original film was a significant success in Germany.
Constantin Film has announced the completion of principal photography for "Der Medicus 2" in Berlin. The film is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 historical epic "The Physician," which attracted over 3.6 million viewers in Germany and was sold to more than 60 countries.
Director Philipp Stölzl has reassembled a high-caliber ensemble cast. Tom Payne reprises his role as the physician Rob Cole, joined by Emily Cox, Aidan Gillen, and Liam Cunningham, among others. Filming took place from August to October 2024 in Hungary, Cologne, and Berlin.
The story is set in the 11th century, following Rob Cole as he returns to his homeland of London after escaping Isfahan. He intends to spread his medical knowledge but becomes entangled in royal court intrigues. Cole must fight for his patients' lives, for recognition of his work, and confront the suffering of the human psyche.
"Der Medicus 2" is produced by Wolf Bauer and Philipp Stölzl, with Constantin Film set to distribute it in German cinemas on December 25, 2025. Beta Cinema is handling worldwide sales.
