Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Acquires Stake in Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a 25% stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project. The project, located off the UK coast, aims to generate up to 1,080MW of electricity.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a 25% share in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V). The share was previously held by a consortium led by Macquarie.
The acquisition increases CIP's portfolio of UK energy infrastructure. The Five Estuaries wind farm is situated approximately 40km off the coast of Essex and Suffolk. The project, with a potential capacity of up to 1,080MW, received development consent in December 2025.
The project ownership is now shared with EDF power solutions (33.33%), ESB (20.83%), and Sumitomo Corporation (20.83%). Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of approximately one million UK homes.
Kunal Patel, Partner at CIP, highlighted offshore wind's role in enhancing UK energy security and economic growth. Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF power solutions UK and Ireland, stated that the project complements the company's existing UK portfolio.
