CorPower Ocean Achieves First DNV Certification for Wave Energy Technology
CorPower Ocean has received the world's first DNV Prototype Certificate for a Wave Energy Converter (WEC). This certification confirms the technology meets DNV's structural, reliability, and safety requirements, paving the way for commercial investment.

CorPower Ocean has been awarded the world's first DNV Prototype Certificate for a Wave Energy Converter (WEC), marking a significant step for the wave energy sector. The certification, issued by independent maritime classification society DNV under its DNV-SE-0120 standard, verifies that the CorPower C4 technology meets stringent requirements for structural strength, reliability, and safety.
This validation is expected to reduce technology risk and facilitate project finance, insurance, and institutional investment for commercial wave energy deployments. CorPower Ocean is currently advancing its first two industrial-scale wave energy projects in Portugal and Scotland.
The certification process followed a seven-year engagement with DNV, encompassing extensive verification of the technology's design, engineering, manufacturing, and performance testing under extreme conditions, including waves up to 18.5 meters. This rigorous evaluation establishes a new benchmark for the wave energy industry.
CEO Patrik Möller described the achievement as a "historic milestone" that transitions wave energy from a promising concept to a proven and bankable technology. CorPower Ocean aims to establish wave energy as the world's third-largest renewable energy source, complementing wind and solar power.
