Costa Rica Launches Interactive Map of Cultural and Natural Heritage
Costa Rica has launched "Descubrí Costa Rica," a free digital interactive map exploring the nation's cultural, natural, and oceanic wealth. The platform is available in Spanish and English.

Costa Rica has introduced a new free digital platform called "Descubrí Costa Rica," featuring an interactive map designed for exploring the country. Developed by the country brand "esencial COSTA RICA," the initiative is a collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Costa Rica's (UCR) research centers for marine sciences and geography.
The comprehensive map integrates geographical, oceanic, cultural, historical, and scientific information about Costa Rica. It aims to improve access to knowledge for students, educators, researchers, tourists, and the general public. Users can discover iconic locations such as national parks, waterfalls, and volcanoes, alongside details on biodiversity and significant historical milestones, including the early adoption of electric street lighting in San José and the prohibition of sport hunting.
The tool also highlights the country's vast maritime territory, which accounts for 92% of its total area. The platform provides academically and scientifically backed information, particularly concerning marine biodiversity, making it a valuable resource for educational and research purposes. "Descubrí Costa Rica" seeks to foster national pride and a deeper understanding of the nation's heritage. As Adriana Acosta, Director of "esencial COSTA RICA," stated, the map enables users to "learn interactively about our diversity, culture, and historical data."
The "Descubrí Costa Rica" interactive map is accessible online at esencialcostarica.com/mapainteractivo. It represents part of "esencial COSTA RICA's" broader efforts to promote national identity and educate both citizens and international audiences about the country's unique natural, cultural, and territorial assets.
