Costa Rica launches interactive map of its cultural and natural heritage

Costa Rica now features a new, free digital platform named "Discover Costa Rica". This interactive map aims to allow users to explore and learn about the country's territory, consolidating geographical, oceanographic, cultural, historical, and scientific information.

Developed by the country brand "essential COSTA RICA" in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Center for Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR-UCR) and the Institute of Geography at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), the platform makes knowledge about Costa Rica accessible to students, teachers, researchers, tourists, and the general public. Information is available in both Spanish and English.

The map allows users to discover sites like national parks, waterfalls, and volcanoes, as well as ecosystems, biodiversity data, and culturally significant locations. It also highlights Costa Rica's maritime dimension, which constitutes 92% of its territory, and historical facts, such as San José being one of the first cities globally with electric street lighting. The platform is based on academic and scientific research.

"Discover Costa Rica" is part of "essential COSTA RICA's" efforts to promote national pride and awareness of the country's heritage. It complements other initiatives like "Costa Rica Blue", which focuses on raising awareness about the importance of the sea. The platform is available on the "essential COSTA RICA" website.
