Creality 3D Publishes Guide on Painting 3D Prints

Shenzhen-based 3D printer manufacturer Creality 3D Technology Co., Ltd. has published an updated guide focused on painting 3D printed objects. The material aims to assist users in enhancing the visual appearance of their 3D prints.

The guide categorizes techniques into three levels: Quick & Easy, Clean Finish with Good Durability, and Professional-Quality Finish. Each tier outlines the required tools and materials, ranging from basic craft paints and sandpaper to advanced items like airbrush kits and fillers. The objective is to help users achieve a smoother surface and better paint adhesion.

A significant portion of the guide is dedicated to surface preparation. It advises cleaning and washing the print before painting to remove dust and grease. Subsequently, the surface should be sanded using various grits of sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish. Creality 3D emphasizes the importance of removing sanding dust before proceeding.

Applying a primer is highlighted as a crucial step for improved paint adhesion and for revealing imperfections prior to painting. The company recommends spray primers suitable for plastic or PLA, to be applied in thin, even coats in a well-ventilated area. Acrylic paints are specifically noted as a suitable choice for PLA prints due to their ease of use and quick drying times.
