CRIF Hosted Credit Bureau Workshop at Decision Solutions Forum

An international workshop discussing credit bureau development and the importance of data sources took place at CRIF's Decision Solutions Forum. The session, chaired by Davide Meo, CRIF's Direct International Market Manager, featured speakers addressing key industry trends.

Oscar Madeddu from the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) emphasized the critical need for new, alternative data sources, such as those from telecommunication and utility companies, for the future of the credit market. Madeddu provided an overview of international credit bureau development, noting progress in Europe and Central Asia over the past five years, while development has been slower in Sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia/Pacific regions.

Zoran Bohacek, Managing Director of the Croatian Banking Association, presented a case study on the role of credit bureaus in navigating complex macroeconomic systems during a financial crisis. He detailed Croatia's experience in managing economic challenges, highlighting the involvement of key stakeholders like monetary authorities, government, banks, and the credit bureau's role in monitoring decisions.

Further insights into establishing credit bureaus were shared through case studies from Saudi Arabia and Nordic countries, covering diverse data sources, regulations, and delivery models. Annika Steffner from UC Decision Solutions showcased the established credit bureau in Sweden and its successful partnership with CRIF. The event concluded by reinforcing the principle that sound credit management, regardless of the model or time period, always begins with data from credit bureaus.
