CRRC Completes 110-Meter Recyclable Wind Turbine Blade Production

CRRC has completed the production of its 110-meter high-performance recyclable wind turbine blade, developed in-house at its Sheyang facility in Jiangsu Province. The company states that the blade design facilitates efficient material separation and recovery, achieving over 95% recovery of key raw materials. This development is presented as a significant step towards the commercial-scale recycling of ultra-large wind turbine blades.

The newly produced blade utilizes a recyclable material system featuring a high-efficiency, debondable infusion resin. CRRC reports that this system meets demanding performance requirements for strength, stiffness, and fatigue life. Crucially, it incorporates reversible chemical debonding technology, allowing for the efficient separation of resin from reinforcing fibers.

Recovered materials, including resin and fibers, are intended for reuse in wind equipment, automotive manufacturing, and infrastructure construction. This approach moves away from the traditional "single-use" model for turbine blades, enabling closed-loop recovery and high-value reuse of composite materials. The system is also positioned to support customers in meeting international sustainability reporting obligations.

This advancement occurs as China rapidly expands its renewable energy sector. With projections of significant new onshore and offshore wind installations, managing the disposal of retired turbines is becoming a growing industry challenge. Industry estimates suggest over 30,000 turbines will be retired in China by 2030, generating substantial waste.

CRRC has previously introduced other recycling-focused technologies, including China's first TMT82 recyclable thermoset-resin blade in March 2025. In April 2025, the company launched a mobile processing system for decommissioned blades, designed as a deployable "smart mobile recycling factory."
